Nagato Yuki, a Mask and a sword

Double posts! Haha, i just had to pen down my thoughts about the ykt 2008 first else I’ll be too lazy to write about it later. So what’s with the Yuki and the mask? Well, last Thursday I went out with a few of them to catch Step Up 2 in the theartres and to chill a little. We chanced upon this otaku shop on our way back and so we decided to check it out. There quite a few interesting things in there such as cosplay costumes and the likes. Haha, we even saw a paw-type glove that Alison might find useful! Our purchases at the end of the day:

A bleach sword keychain bought by MK. The first one he bought was kinda crooked a little. Thus, he went back to change it, only to find out all of them are the same! Probably wanted it as a good luck charm for the tourney or maybe he couldn’t afford the real-life replicas at the shop where Zhaolu bought his Masamune. So he decided a small one will do. Haha

Fox mask bought by Glen. I look good in cosplay no? Hahaha! Eh, are those two at the back talking about me?? Glen bought this because he wanted to wear it while playing the guitar. Peculiar indeed.

Finally, Nagato Yuki keychain bought by me! She’s like damn adorable plus she’s also my lucky charm for the tournament! Well, was looking for a Haruhi keychain when I saw the Yuki keychain but I couldn’t find any. Furthermore, Yuki was like standing out from the rest so I decided to purchase her. Thanks to this, I might switch sides from Haruhi to Yuki. Lol. If you’re interested, here’s the webpage of the shop (although they only put their address on it): http://www.myotakuhouse.com/

Youth Kendo Tournament 2008

Well, what can I say? Probably one of the most memorable tournaments I participated in. Both good and bad memories. Lol. Guess the short break after the long week of consecutive trainings helped. Although I fell ill when I got home last Wednesday after the ‘last’ training before the tourney that lasted till Friday.

Both my individuals and team matches ended in the quarterfinals, ironically. However, this time I was feeling way more satisfied than the last youth tourney. Haha, and I was telling MK in the middle of the individuals that no matter how strong our opponents are, we will still go all the way to the top. Well, he almost did nonetheless, in the team matches.

I’m too lazy to talked about my matches so you can ask me personally if you want to know how it went. One things for sure, I have never ever concentrated so much in the previous matches before compared to the ones at this tournament. Another thing is to never underestimate an opponent no matter how weak they appear to be. No, I did not underestimate the opponents that I was facing but those who were there should know what I’m saying.

Well, congrats to all those who won a medal! Last of all, to my batch, there’s only one more chance left to redeem ourselves. Haha, let’s bring our kendo up a few notches before us boys leave for NS.

The past week or so…

Been a little tad lazy to blog nowadays. What have I been doing since my last post? First and foremost, there was the IT fair that was held roughly two weeks ago. Instead of selling printers, I sold LCD monitors instead. Here’s my sales record:

Day 1: [11] Day2: [13] Day 3: [24] Day 4: [46]

Horrible I know but it’s better than nothing right? During that duration, I talked and talked and talked like there’s no tomorrow. I tell you, Singaporeans are so… Frequent questions like “This one can get freebie?” or “This one got discount” and the likes will really piss you off from time to time.

The week after, we had kendo training for 5 consecutive days. Performance got from bad to worse. Something is very wrong with my left arm for some reason…

Slam Dunk

This has got to be one my favorite anime. I’ve forgotten how many times I’ve watch this. Well, decided to re-watch it when it aired in Animax but as per usual, I was soon getting impatient to watch it one episode per day and I decided to ‘chiong’ it on youtube. Here’s the summary from animenewsnetwork:

Sakuragi Hanamichi is a junior high punk used to getting into fights and being rejected by girls but upon entering high school he meets the girl of his dreams, Haruko Akagi. He will do anything in order to win her heart including joining the school basketball team that is aiming to conquer the nation lead by Haruko’s brother. The problem is that Sakuragi has never played basketball before and a freshman sensation is stealing the spotlight and Haruko’s affection from him.

It’s interesting to see how each character grows, especially the main protagonist Sakuragi Hanamichi. Some might call it talent or the like but it’s amazing how he managed to turn from a guy who is totally clueless about basketball to become one of the finest players in a mere 4 months. In the anime however, they only showed till about 3 months into his career, which is during the preliminaries. You will have to read the manga to find out what happens during the Nationals as the anime will end right before Sakuragi and co. heads off for the Nationals

Slam Dunk is somewhat inspiring in a sense. It’s also something that will have you gripping the edge of your seat, especially during those intense moments in the matches and it’s sometimes emotional that you’ll just feel like crying. I might be exaggerating here but that’s how I felt when I watch the anime or read the manga although some parts of the anime can be draggy. Most memorable match was probably Shohoku vs Sannoh in the Nationals. Why memorable? Go read the manga to find out! However, before you do, watch the anime first.

You’ll then find that there’s a difference when you read it after watching the anime and when you just read it without watching. I’m not the talking about the quality and the likes. The feeling of reading the manga will be totally different. Maybe it’s just me but it won’t hurt to try no? Now I feel like learning basketball. Guess I’ll also buy the manga. Lol
