Rainyday’s Cafe

Where you’ll never feel hungry!

New phase

The new phase of my army life has just begun about a week ago. I got into SISPEC and of all companies the SAF could have possibly put me into, they chuck me into the notoriously known ‘C’ company. Oh well, like in BMT, try to make the best out of it .

A wide selection of mouth-watering sushi will also be  prepared  on the spot by the chefs for all consummate sushi fans. Last but  not  least,  desserts such as cheesecakes, fruits, ice cream and beverages  complete the buffet with a satisfying touch.

My Say:
I guess the above description will give you an insight on what they serve. Right, now for the taste. I’ve heard from some people the food from Sakura is horrible and yet some others say that the food is quite good. Well, different people has different taste so sometimes you have to go to the place there to find out for yourself.

As for me, I’ll probably give a 7/10 for the food. The food is passable as there were some good ones there. However, if you’re there just to sample Japanese food, I wouldn’t make this restaurant the top of the list. The quality for the Japanese food is only ‘ok’. You can tell the difference in quality if you have been to other restaurants. Take the Takoyaki for example. I was delighted when they were serving it but was kind of disappointed when I ate it as it only gave a so-so taste.

Western wasn’t so bad especially if it were the ones the chefs cooked for you. Just think of Seoul Garden meat being cooked properly. The fried Western food can be comparable to those fast food chains. I didn’t really eat the Oriental food so I’m not too sure what they were like. Plus, make room for desserts as there are a wide array of them available like ice-cream, cakes and pudding so you will be spoilt for choice on what to eat.

The place is pretty nice to eat in small groups so if you are thinking on bringing your date there to eat, it is advisable not to as there will be groups of people here and there and the two of you won’t have your private moments. Overall, unless I’m having a gathering or something, I might give this a pass (mainly due to the price).

POP O!!

On the 9th December 2008, the soldiers marched into the parade square, eagerly anticipating the end of their BMT lives. After 2 whole months in there, it has finally ended! Well, somewhat since I have to serve guard duty on the 20th, which happens to be my dad’s birthday as well. Thanks a bunch to drawing lots…

We book in at around 5pm on the 8th, did the usual stuff plus some final words from our OC and commanders and lights off at around 8.30pm. Woke up at an unearthly hour, 3am to be exact, and prepare ourselves for the gruelling 24km route march. For some weird reason, my field pack was heavy (must be the tupperwares..has to be the tupperwares!!) The route march was hell. I even fell asleep while walking a few times (god knows how i manage to do that) Some parts of the march were literally meant to kill your feet! I might be exaggerating there but you get the drift. I mange to survive it one way or another.

The Passing-Out Parade, or the Graduation Parade as how it is addressed now, was kind of alright. This is especially so after we spend the whole of last week doing rehearsals after rehearsals every day for half a day. Words can’t really describe how we feel when we march into the parade square that day with around 2000 plus people watching us and cheering us on. Ah well, it was a great feeling nonetheless. For now, we have to wait patiently for our new posting to be announced

5th and 6th Book Out

I was feeling lazy to blog last week on my 5th book out as I had a fever but nothing much happen during that week as most of the time is used to finish up the remaining activities .

The week thereafter was quite eventful. First up, we had our Graduation Parade rehearsals every single day and the rehearsals itself lasts for about half a day. The result? Most of us now have sunburnt and uneven-tanned skin. Other than that, we had recruit’s evening which is the only time we get to wear civilian clothing outside company line in tekong. The event was so-so I guess although you can see a number of them going crazy because there are a few women there (It’s like they are deprived of seeing the opposite gender for the whole of their BMT)

Then there was Games Day. The Drill Squad and Tentage team won first place. The tentage team literally pawned the others as when they were already striking down their tent after the judges assestment, the other teams were still building up their tent. We did not manage to take part in the rest of the games as there was a huge thunderstorm so they have o cancel the event.

We booked out yesterday (everyone thought it was a Friday book out initially) and I caught up with a few of my friends at night for dinner and to catch a movie. The movie we watch was the City of Ember but I’ll write about it on another post. Only two more events left which is our 24km route march and our Graduation Parade this coming Tuesday.
